Jesse had an unusually hard time maintaining a job. To be sure, due to her indolence and lack of drive, she was jobless far more often than she was employed with a job. And when she did get a job, she had an exceedingly hard time getting to work on time, she typically got less than optimal performance reviews, and she called off sick so consistently that she almost always got fired a week or two after she began working. To no one’s surprise, one of the effects of Jesse’s terrible employment history was the fact that she was virtually penniless much of the time.
In spite of Jesse’s poor employment history and financial disregard, however, one way or another she made it a point to drink abusively most of the time.
So it came as no big shock when Jesse received a fourth DUI. When she went before the court, the judge explained to Jesse that her alcohol-related conduct was terrible and, as a result, he was going to sentence Jesse to serve six months in the city jail.
Time In Jail To Think About The Demoralizing Consequences of Careless Drinking
During her time in the county jail, Jesse was expected to learn more about alcohol facts, about the devastating consequences of abusive and irresponsible drinking, and she was required to get alcohol counseling. The judge accentuated the fact that unless Jesse gets professional alcohol counseling and learns how to live an alcohol-free life, she will most probably be spending a considerable amount of time in the city jail.
Jesse stated that she grasped what the judge was asserting but she still believed that placement in the local jail was not the appropriate punishment. The magistrate saw things differently and asserted that it was his professional job to keep alcohol addicted individuals off the streets who drive and drink and who get a DUI. To substantiate this statement, the judge listed some venerable, thoroughly researched alcohol statistics that highlighted some of the hurtful effects that are correlated with excessive and irresponsible drinking.
Although Jesse grasped the fact that she drank in an excessive and irresponsible manner, she never felt that she was an alcohol addicted individual. So it was a real shocker when Jesse started to experience symptoms of withdrawal just about seven hours after getting locked up in the county jail.
To manage her symptoms of alcohol withdrawal in a safe and secure manner, Jesse was taken by ambulance to an alcohol rehabilitation hospital for alcohol detox and then returned to the municipal jail. While locked up in the local jail Jesse was given a mental health exam for her depression and received alcohol treatment but due to the fact that she got this therapy as something that was mandated for her, she neglected to take ownership of her hazardous and abusive drinking.
When her time in the local jail was finished, the magistrate without indecision announced to Jesse that she would be under close observation and would be required to take periodic blood alcohol tests.
Jessie’s Excessive Drinking Prevents Her From Living in an Accountable and Responsible Manner
After hearing how Jesse failed to take ownership of her drinking circumstances and how she unwillingly followed the counseling procedures while in the city jail, the judge knew that it was simply a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about her abusive and irresponsible drinking behavior. As the magistrate reflected on Jesse’s circumstance, he couldn’t help but think about how some individuals never use their brain and discover how to live in an adult manner.
